Back to School

Today was my first day out in 3 days (except for the hospital of course)

I spent the day here at the Narmada Bhavan school for disabled children

The school is run by parents of mentally and physically disabled children and young adults

They teach the kids basics in school, how to function, and how to do simple tasks to make a living

One of the guys there was really nervous to talk to us, but he was really sweet and spoke English

He told us he has two brothers in America working

These are bags that the kids learn to make at the school

The parents sell them at exhibitions and all the money goes toward keeping the school running

It also helps the kids learn a skill to help their family later on in life

So very true...and I'm glad the school believes that too.

She is one of the main directors of the school

Basically, we are going to be going to the school everyday to interact with the kids, talk to them and learn their story.

We will make a profile for each child and put it on the school's website so people in India and America can see the kids.

On the website there will be an option  for people to sponsor a child for a year or just donate what they can.

The school is in need of just about everything from wheelchairs to backpacks

so any little bit will help.

It only cost about $130 USD to sponsor a child for a year

Getting the profiles started and the website redone is a work in progress,

but it feels so good to be working on something like this.

These kids obviously need the help, and I got such a good feeling going to the school and learning what they do.

Most of the kids weren't at the school today, but I can't wait to meet them on Monday and start writing their stories.

Although I will be helping with the profiles for each student my main job on the project is 

PHOTOGRAPHER!

I may not be the best for this job...but I so excited to get to meet all the kids, get to know them and take pictures of all of them.

On the way home I was just so glad to be out and about that I was taking pictures of just about everything

The chalk designs are there as a sign of welcome

I definitely never made a chalk drawing like THAT when I was a kid

This was the cutest little brother and sister I saw on the street. He picked up his sister to get her out of the way of the scary white girl...You'll have to click on it to make it bigger...so cute!
